This review should more count as a second opinion, as the one's who make it this far probably know more than enough about this game's astounding visuals. However there are a lot of caveats to this truly epic and visceral tale. (I don't use words lightly, and these last ones are put there with great care).
But I'm sorry to say that in so much as this tale is epic, it is in the art direction and scope, not in it's story telling and innovation.
The good:
- Static visuals and panoramas
- Pacing and diversity
- Sound, music and to some extent voice acting
The bad:
- Enemies not responding to hits
- Non- fluid transitions between comboes
- Not keeping with the times in combat
- Boring boss characters. (fights good, characters boring)
If God of War was a cake it would look delicious but taste aweful. That's really just all there is to say.
