10 things to share (2)

1: The Browser by The Browser (web page)
The Browser is an excellent publication which specialises in bringing to the forefront the best pieces of journalism over a variety of themes. I recommend following them on twitter. If you use instapaper, they also appear in the recommended section there.

2: Plot Device by Red Giant. (movie)
This fantastic short- movie was made with limited resources but sophisticated software. It is a promotionaly piece, but I'm really becoming optimistic about the posibilities for high- quality creative work by amateurs in the future.

3: The Ultimate Display by Ivan Sutherland (essay)
This text was written in 1965 about the computer age to come. Sutherland predicted many future technologies such as vector- graphics, the computer mouse or touchpad and movie formats. He also made some predictions that has yet to come true. Maybe this ancient text is worth a look!

4: Language by Stephen Fry and Matthew Rogers (kinetic typography and essay/causerie)
This is the animated essay "Language" by Stephen Fry, but not animated in the typical sense. Words fly across the screen as Fry rants about how the beauty of language is often overlooked, while some pedants irritate themselves over trivial things. Recommended for language lovers, and everyone else.

5: Proun by Joost van Dongen (video- game)
Ever seen the works of art by Kandinsky? This is the game that lets you travel through Kandinsky- like gemoetrical gamescapes, accompanied by rhythmic jazz. It's awesome, and it is also FREE.

6: Less Talk More Rock by Superbrothers (design essay)
This is a fantastic little document about how the creators of Sword & Sworcery EP feel about game creation. It is a general piece, talking about the connection of inpiration to the finished product, and of the visual versus te textual. And they don't just preach, the use it too! It also contains beautiful word/ide- combinations like "audiovisually articulate".

7: Food for The Eagle by Adam Savage (speech)
This is Savage's well articulated speech for the Harvard humanist society in april 2010. He talks about responsibility, being an adult and about one of his life goals - feeding the eagle.

8: Sweet- Station by Sweet- Station (content sharing site)
These people don't write much. They just post art. Installation art, drawings, design - anything that is cool and can be represented on a 500 pixel breadth. They also update regularly and somehow avoid art- snobbery; it's just a sweet- station.

9: Metafilter by The Community (community portal)
This community blog picks up on whatever the internet finds interesting. I like to check in her once in a while to see what all the fuzz is about.

10: Gawker Artists by Gawker Media
This is an artists collective. I find some of the best art online here. Anyone can apply to be featured. There are currently around 1500 artsist, within the media of drawing, photography, digital, movie and so on. Gawker media runs several of the more profitable blogs, including kotaku and gizmodo. They are definitely hip.
